ART 112 Portfolio

University of Hawaii - West Oahu

This is my beginner art portfolio, a collection that represents the early stages of my creative journey. Thank you for taking the time to explore it! I hope you find something enjoyable and perhaps even inspiring amidst these initial pieces. Your interest in my work means a lot to me, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to share my art with you.

Typographic Portrait of Lil Nas X

For this Intro to Digital Art exercise, I took on the challenge of creating a typographic portrait of the iconic artist, Lil Nas X. Using carefully selected typography and lettering techniques, I aimed to capture his unique personality and energy within the intricate arrangement of letters. Through this project, I explored the dynamic relationship between text and visual representation, resulting in a compelling portrait that celebrates the artist's impact and individuality.

Magazine Cover

For this ART 112 project, I was tasked with the creative challenge of designing a hypothetical magazine cover. This involved conceptualizing and crafting a visually compelling and engaging magazine cover, with the aim of honing my design skills and exploring various elements of graphic composition and artistry. I selected my words carefully and displayed them with clean and legible fonts.

For this project, I chose to do a landscape-style beach setting for a Hawaiian Sun advertisement. Landscape orientation of the canvas allowed me to put more emphasis on a few drink flavors, rather than using portrait which would be better for a single drink. I came up with this design by looking at other beverage advertisements on the internet that use specific settings to generate feelings of thirst in their viewers, such as sports, hiking, and sunny days. I focused on using triadic harmony in color balancing the sunset with the ocean. I also took advantage of the depth-of-view from the perspective of the viewer looking at the sunset to make shadowed objects and black text.

Animation

For this project, I created an animation of some motorcycle riders having a nice day out on the track. The riders are Red, Green, and Blue (RGB Squad). I wanted to practice using the horizon line to create a point of approach towards the viewer to show the riders scaling in size and velocity as they approach the nadir in the lower left corner. Each of the bikers is taking a different approach to cornering in this turn and you can see how that affects their size as each frame is animated. The GIF loops with Red starting his turn as Blue completes theirs.

Web Design

In tandem with a few other courses this semester, my goal was to create this website as a portfolio for all of my current and future works. Please explore the pages, tabs, galleries, and links that make my website unique!
